Day 160: Traveling to Your Paphos
Acts 13:6a
They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos.
Thoughts for Today:
Previously Barnabas and Saul had been called into missionary service by the Holy Spirit. I think it is interesting that their first choice of where to go was Barnabas home country of Cyprus. We see many times where the Holy Spirit only provides the inspiration to do something, it is then up to us to come up with the application. I can see myself and one of my friends in this story: the Holy Spirit calls and we both answer, "Yes Lord!" Then we look at each other and ask, "Where do you want to go?" "I don't know, where do you want to go?" "Let's go to Cyprus, I used to live there, the beaches are great and the people really need Jesus." So off we would go, and off went Barnabas and Saul. They traveled the whole island, preaching and teaching Jesus, until they came to Paphos, and it is there that things really got interesting.
Such is the case with Christian ministry; you really have no idea what's around the next corner or where something will ultimately lead. We will have to wait until our next devotion to look at what happens next but let me sum it up: it will be remarkable and memorable. You might wonder why I started and stopped today's devotion with this boring little half a verse, "They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos." The point I'm making is working for the Lord is not always at first glance exciting and miraculous. Many seeds planted by Barnabas and Saul would not bear fruit immediately. In fact some of the work may seem dull and difficult at times. But around the bend, the next corner, when you need it most (and expect it least) the Lord will reveal Himself to you in His full glory. All you have to do is keep traveling "through the whole island until" you come to your "Paphos."
Questions to Ponder:
Are you currently in service to the Lord? Have you traveled the whole island yet haven't seen anything remarkable or miraculous? Take heart your "Paphos" may be near and everything will make sense. Are you ready? Pray and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you through the work He has given you.
